Throughout my years of experience, all too often have I seen hardware reviews that were "slopped together", not tested or written well, and obviously not a true indication of how good (or bad) the product really is. I've seen disgruntled consumers buying products on one site's glowing review, only to find that they overlooked too many flaws in an effort to please the sponsor. I've seen those users label the hardware review industry as a fraud, and when they rely on scarce write-ups from potentially inexperienced users on a forum somewhere, they find their buying decisions much more difficult to make.

I feel that needs to change; when I started FastLaneHW, my goal was to put the "review" back in hardware reviews. You won't find 15 pages of needless specifications in our reviews, or 2 pages of company history, or 20 photos of the packaging, or a rant about how Fido almost peed on the testing sample (well, maybe that would be an exception)- just the facts you need to know, lots of pictures to feast your eyes on, and a write-up of our testing.

That's what we feel a review should be-- straight to the point, yet detailed enough to let you know the real story before you spend your hard-earned money.

A good rule of thumb that I follow when writing reviews is to write as if I just bought a new piece of hardware, and was preparing to write an email to my best friend to tell him about it before he buys it. If I wouldn't say it to my best friend, I wouldn't say it to you. That's the philosophy that we aim to follow and I feel that it's worked pretty well since the site started, and I hope you all feel the same way.
