Buffalo PC3200 Review
Written by Justin B. | Date: 9.05.2003 | Manufacturer: Buffalo Tech
The important choice of how much and what brand of memory to add to your computer is a very important one, for both overclockers and non-overclockers. Memory is a very large factor in your system's stabilty and overall speed, so when you buy memory for your new nForce2, KT600, or i865/875 system, you need to make sure you're buying quality stuff.

Today we'll be looking at Buffalo's PC3200 memory, in 2x256MB form. This will deliver 512MB of memory (enough for all but the most demanding users, who should instead look at getting 2 512MB sticks), as well as the dual channel memory that is oh-so-important, especially on P4s.

It's rated at a conservative 200Mhz CAS 2.5, but we'll soon find out that this memory is really capable of running more than 200Mhz CAS 2.5. WAY more.

Here's the memory I'm talking about:

It comes in a rather boring box...but hey, it's just a box...and it winds up in the garbage sooner or later anyway.

Buffalo has done away completely with useless fluff like heatspreaders, fancy packaging, "dual channel kits" found on other brands, and they're throwing in exactly what we want-- memory! The Buffalo PC3200 256MB is single-sided, and uses the new 0.13u variation of the Winbond chips, dubbed CH-5. If you haven't already heard the story about these chips, you'll be sure to hear it on the Testing page of this article.

Speaking of that, let's move on! There's not much to be said on the pictures, you'll find the testing page more interesting
