Thermaltake Xaser V Damier Review
Written by Justin B. | Date: 3.28.2004 | Manufacturer: Thermaltake

The Xaser V Damier we received is silver with a red background and a checkerboard pattern on the front panel, with the Thermaltake logo on the front (which we will show you in all its lighted glory later). Let me get one thing out of the way first-- if you're like me and looking to create a "contemporary and understated" look with your computer setup, you're definitely going to need to look elsewhere. This case spares no flash or glam, with lights, colors, and logos throughout, it's a different type of look. Looks are subjective, though, so I can't focus on them very much.

It measures in at 490x205x580mm.

Note the lock on the front of this case-- one cool feature about this is how the lock, when locked, secures the side panel as well as the front panel. Very nice idea, Thermaltake!

Anyway, here's the case with the door removed. We can see that it not only contains space for the included rheobus/temp display, but enough for up to 4 additional 5.25" devices, and 2 3.5" devices! With the door removed, the Damier is an attractive and simple silver color. The front bezel assembly sans the door is silver plastic-- it's not particularly glossy, but not messy looking either.

Furthermore, the entire front bezel can swing out to expose the rest of the case, for drive installations, and cleaning fan filters.

The included rheobus has knobs for 4 fans (on my sample, the knob for Fan #4 was strangely missing. It contains feautes for an automatic temperature alarm, adjustment for 4 different fans, as well as a temperature display which can show temperatures in either F or C. Very nice addition!

Another cool feature about this case is the inclusion of Smart Fan knobs on the front. If you have a Volcano CPU cooler, PurePower PSU, etc, they will use the 2-pin connector on your unit to seamlessly integrate with your case, and allow control of up to 2 Thermaltake Smart Fan-equipped devices without taking up a drive bay. Again, I've got to say it's a really nice idea to include this!

I'm not sure if you can quite make it out due to my digicam, but notice the material difference between the plastic front bezel and the brushed aluminum body.

Here's a shot of the top USB/Audio/FW panel. Thermaltake's decision to mount these on the top is unconventional, and makes the most sense if your computer is on top of your desk (unlike mine).

Here's a side shot of the case. As you can see, Thermaltake uses an X-shape window and a "Thermaltake: Cool All Your Life" imprinted on the side. This door also uses two thumbscrews to fasten to the case.
