Logisys Phantom Case Review
Written by Justin B. | Date: 8.29.2004 | Manufacturer: Logisys
Today we're going to take a look at yet another premodified case, this time it's the Logisys Phantom. Sporting a 120mm rear exhaust and front intake, along with an 80mm side intake, the Phantom not only looks interesting, but cools well, and won't break the bank. Let's get started by taking a quick look at the specs:

• Dimension: 200mm(W) x 440mm(H) x 500mm(D) = 7.9" x 17.3" x 19.8"
• Max. Motherboard size: 12" x 9.5"
• 4 open 5.25" drive bays
• 2 open 3.5" drive bays
• 4 hidden 3.5" drive bays
• A total of 10 drive bays
• Built in 2 front USB 2.0 + Audio Output
• Back Mounted 120mm Clear Fan and 80mm Side Clear Fan. Also, a blade fan grill is included
• UV Interactive Acrylic Side Window
• Special Designed Shutter Style Air Exit for better and silent performance
• ATX 480watts power supply (our version did not include this)
• Toolless Thumb Screws

Looks like the standard fare for a lightweight, inexpensive "gamer's case"...here's what the Phantom looks like, our review sample is in black, which is bound to be a popular color, though you can choose from blue, silver, or red as well.

The "V" design in the front is similar to the NZXT Guardian (linked below), the case does not overuse flashy colors, and in doing so manages to add a sense of creativity without falling into the "tacky" category.

The front door opens to reveal 4 5.25" bays and 2 3.5" external bays. The entire front panel of this case is plastic, the rest is aluminum.

Take note of the Reset button, which is placed behind the door. This may help to stop some accidental triggering of the Reset button...

To get a better close-up on the triangular power button...it's big, it lights up (as you'll see later on), and it's well placed-- you can't miss it. I've seen a few cases where it's not properly differentiated as to which one is the power and which is the reset, and trust me, it does get annoying.

Another important thing to take note of is the perforated sheet metal used for the front panel...not only does this promote extra air intake (the more ventilation to the front fan, the better), but also looks pretty cool with the LED lights, which you will see on the Testing page.

Last but not least, the USB/audio ports with the option for FireWire. The flip down cover exposes these ports, and internal case hookups are used to connect them (i.e. they do not route outside of the case).

Here is a side shot of the case. As is to be expected, the case has a window, but this particular case has an interesting "arrow" design on the window. It also has an 80mm intake blowhole for extra air.

OK, now this confused me-- the fan has a fan grill, but then uses another piece of perforated sheet metal? Fan grills already cut airflow bad enough, I dont' see the need for ANOTHER piece of airflow-hindering material. But on the bright side, it's easy enough to remove the perforated sheet metal, just unscrew the fan, take it out, and put the fan back in again.

Here's a feature that makes the Phantom unique-- on the side of the window are 4 blue LEDs, which light up when the case is powered on. Very interesting design idea! This always provides flashy lighting for your case, despite whether or not you actually have cathodes or LED fans inside. Definitely a smart move on Logisys' part.

Let's move to the inside of this case, turn the page...
