While DDR2 is certainly on the horizon, DDR is far from dead. Most Athlon 64 boards are still using DDR (well, the fast ones anyway), and older Socket 478 P4 boards use it, not to mention all Athlon XP systems. Obviously, DDR still has a market, and a pretty big one at that.
Today PQI (formerly known as PMI) brings us their Turbo Memory 1GB PC4000 DDR dual channel kit. It's rated at an aggressive 2.5-3-3-7. It used to be that if you wanted PC4000 memory, you'd have to give up your latency to do so. This appears to no longer be the case with PQI's new PC4000 sticks.

The answer, of course, is the TCCD chips that sit under those pretty platinum heatspreaders-- the same as we found on the Corsair 3200XL. However, these sticks are GUARANTEED to run DDR500 @ CAS 2.5 and default voltage.
The PQI memory comes neatly packaged in this plastic container, but unfortunately requires a scissor to open

The front side of the memory shows the model number (PQI4000-1024DPL), along with the full ratings of this memory, which we've already covered. The back side is uneventful, but shiny.

Pictured is the RAM installed in our DFI LanpartyUT nForce3 board. This RAM doesn't light up or anything, sorry
We'll be testing this RAM on the next page, read on.
