Galaxy Tech GC-900 Acrylic Case Review

The GC-900 comes unassembled, in the box shown here. The acrylic pieces are almost too well-packed, but this prevents them from being scratched/cracked during shipping. Too bad it takes forever to remove though...

Here are all the acrylic pieces for the GC-900. Each one is wrapped in bubble paper and stacked on top of each other, and the foam padding is used for shipping. The GC-900 also includes the following:

A bunch of screws, two cotton gloves (so you don't get fingerprints on the acrylic pieces), a backplate, and a somewhat amusing manual written in Engrish. I would have liked to have seen an acrylic backplate, however; though on the other hand, most boards come with custom backplates anyway, so it wouldn't really matter in the end.

Let's get started on the assembly! The assembly manual may seem daunting at first, but once you've built the case once, it's really just common sense. Partially assembled case:

Here's the case, which does not yet have the front, back, and side panels on yet. To hold the drives, there are two pieces of acrylic spaced about 5.25" apart from each other. To accommodate 3.5" drives, you use standoffs (which are included) and the drive is mounted as shown here:

As you'll see later, the mobo is attached to the right door, so you'll have to remove the right and back panels, as well as the left panel (all of this may involve removing the mobo) just to add/remove a drive. This can be a real pain, and it could have been avoided by making the right door separate from the mobo tray.

The GC-900 uses these cornerblocks to attach all of the pieces. I think the picture is pretty self-explanatory about how it all works, and if you dont understand, the manual should fill in the blanks for you.

Whew! Now it's all done. Let's take a closer look at the case itself, now that it's assembled.
